Welcome home! We are so happy that you have found the Society of Creative Anachronism. Our goal is to make you first event as fun and enjoyable as possible so that you will want to come back and play with us some more!

If you haven’t done so already, please visit the Society’s newcomer page http://welcome.sca.org/ .

Another great way to help you prepare for your first event is to come to a local meeting. If you live in Jacksonville, FL, the Barony of Castlemere is your local group.

The Barony of Castlemere meets every first and third Wednesday at 7:00pm at St. John's Lutheran Church 1950 Silver Street Jacksonville FL. 32206. You can find our website at www.castlemere.org. Castlemere is full of warm and friendly people who look forward to meeting you and helping you find your place in the SCA.

A few tips for your first event:

What to wear

Everyone who comes to an SCA event should make an attempt at pre-16th century clothing. If you don’t have any clothing that you think is appropriate, we will loan you clothing! Please contact Julie Rider (known as Baroness Jehanette de Lille in the SCA)  for assistance.

What to bring: Daytrip

In keeping with recreating pre-17th century life, we do our best not use throw away plates, cups, napkins or eating utensils. This means that everyone is expected to bring their own “feast gear”.  You will need is a mug or cup of some sort, a plate, bowl, napkin, and cutlery (spoon and knife, and maybe a fork). Feast gear doesn’t have to be elaborate, in fact, simple is usually better.

At this event there will be merchants. Many merchants prefer cash transactions so it is a good idea to bring some extra cash in addition to what you plan on spending on food in case you find something you can’t live without.

What to bring: Overnight
There are two ways you can stay overnight: sleeping in a cabin or sleeping in a tent. In either case we recommend you bring a lantern of some kind for moving about the site at night.

Cabin space is sold on a "first come, first served" basis. Make your reservation ahead of time and let the reservation clerk know any preferences (upper bunk, lower bunk, etc.).
The bunkbeds have mattress pads but if you require more cushioning feel free to bring whatever you may need in addition to your bedding to be comfortable: mattress pads, blankets and or sleeping bag(s), pillows. Some people create elaborate curtains for the lower bunk beds to create some privacy.

There is ample tent space at Camp Immokalee. On the girl side of the camp you get to use the cabin bathrooms; on the boy side of the camp you will find a public bathhouse with bathrooms and showers.
Bring a tent and whatever else you need to be comfortable (sleeping bags, pillows, pads, blankets, camping cots, etc.) . If there is no burn ban in place, camp fires are allowed but need to be kept above ground in fire pits.
